December 8, 2015 - November 29, 2016
The Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy begins on December 8, 2015 and will continue until November 29, 2016.
Pope Francis has asked for several events to take place in dioceses throughout the world. These include a local Holy Door Opening on December 13th and “24 hours for the Lord on March 4-5, 2016. Accordingly the Diocese of Reno will mark these events.
On December 13th, at the 9:30am mass at the Cathedral, Bishop Calvo will officially inaugurate the Year of Mercy with a celebration. We ask that all parishes please include this in your bulletins and websites.
A celebration for the 24 hours for the Lord will also take plans, but those plans are still very tentative and will be announced later. The dates remain the same, March 4-5, 2016.
It is also strongly suggested that each parish have events, programs, etc that incorporate the Year of Mercy, especially within Religious Education and Formation. These may also include an additional Reconciliation Services beyond the Advent and Lenten service; using the themes within homily, and engaging in outreach.
